WEST BEACH - WINDERMERE

This once unremarkable narrow strip of sand, formerly lined with invasive casuarina trees and used primarily as a boat launch, has been beautifully transformed into a tropical retreat. Now a favourite spot for Windermere residents, the beach offers a serene alternative on windy days when the Atlantic-facing shores are too rough. It’s become a peaceful escape to enjoy the sunset or practice paddleboard yoga in the calm waters of Savannah Sound. Berming has introduced mini sand dunes that add visual interest, increase sand depth for the planting of native dune vegetation, and help manage vehicular access. The removal of casuarina pines has further allowed native coastal species to return, restoring the natural beauty and ecological balance of this revitalized shoreline.
